In a world where stress, anxiety, and emotional baggage seem to be the norm rather than the exception, finding practical, accessible, and non-invasive ways to manage these issues is crucial. Enter EFT hypnotherapy and tapping—two powerful techniques that, when combined, offer a holistic approach to mental and emotional wellness. This dynamic protocol can help you navigate life’s challenges with more ease, balance, and resilience.

What is EFT?

Over the past 25 years, EFT has emerged on the healing and wellness scene as an effective and highly mobile protocol for releasing everything from physical pain to responses to trauma. Also known as Emotional Freedom Technique or Tapping, it is a tool that, once learned, can be employed in a flash for instant relief.

Got a headache? Had a close-call accident? Foot cramp? A sad breakup? Anxiety over a presentation? Irritated with your spouse? Angry at the politicians? Start tapping!

When I first learned EFT, I was tapping about one thing or another throughout the day. If I am sleepy, I tap to wake up. If I have trouble sleeping, I tap to fall asleep.

A memorable incident was when I was getting frequent muscle cramps in my left hip. It would happen randomly and even wake me up at night. So, I decided to put EFT to the test. During the cramp, I started tapping, going round and round in the proscribed routine. The cramp shifted to my thigh. I kept tapping. The cramp traveled farther to my calf. I kept at it, marveling at what I was experiencing. It went to my foot for a moment and then out and gone. The whole protocol took about 10 minutes. I was astonished. Even more interesting, at least to me, is that it never returned.

Gary Craig developed the technique in the 1990s. Based on acupressure concepts, tapping stimulates the meridians or channels of energy flow, or chi, within the body.

You see, when an event or thought negatively impacts us, there is a break in the flow of the chi that leaves a shock response. That creates a trigger so that when something similar happens or we remember the trauma, we are impacted again, contributing to emotional blocks, phobias, fears, etc. Left unchecked, these energy blockages can lead to physical ailments.

By stimulating the meridian points while experiencing or recalling a traumatic event, tapping prevents energy disruptions, leading to a new subconscious response and alleviating the trigger.

While traveling in Europe, I  suddenly got a foot cramp while walking on the street. I started tapping, and in a few minutes, the cramp was gone. Likewise, whenever I get frustrated in traffic, I tap at the next stoplight.

The Mechanics of EFT Tapping

EFT involves a simple yet effective sequence:

1. Identify the issue to be addressed. This can be a pain, unwanted emotion, condition, fear, etc.

2. Rate the intensity of the issue. On a scale of 0 to 10, how intense is your experience?

3. Say a positive statement acknowledging the issue and reaffirming your self-acceptance. For example, “Even though I feel sad, I fully love and accept myself.”

4. Begin the tapping sequence. Various locations on the face and body are stimulated while you repeat a phrase encapsulating the issue, such as “feel sad.”

5. Check-in. After completing the tapping sequence several times, rate the level of intensity the issue presents.

A lowered level of intensity is expected. If needed, continue tapping.

While tapping, other thoughts and issues may come to the surface. It is a good idea to repeat the tapping routine on those issues as they are likely related. Reducing or eliminating them may be the key to completing the work on the original problem.

For instance, you may apply EFT to a migraine headache. While tapping, thoughts of your frustration with your workload arise. Both issues need to be addressed to achieve full results.

Benefits of Emotional Freedom Technique

EFT has gained popularity for its versatility and effectiveness in addressing various issues. Some of the key benefits include:

1. Stress Reduction: EFT is known for reducing stress and promoting relaxation. Be sure to apply EFT to your stress’s root causes and correlating sensations.

2. Emotional Relief:  Tapping releases unresolved emotions and traumas, allowing for greater ease and well-being.

3. Pain Relief:  Experience ease and comfort.

4. Improved Focus and Performance: EFT reduces distractions and performance anxiety and boosts confidence.

5. Accessible and Non-Invasive: EFT is non-invasive and can be done anywhere and at any time,

What is Hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy employs a range of induction techniques to lead an individual into a deeply relaxed and focused trance state characterized by heightened awareness. In this state, distractions fade, enabling enhanced self-discovery, clarity, memory recall, and problem-solving. Often utilized to address fears, phobias, and anxiety disorders, hypnotherapy is also highly effective in overcoming addictions and assisting with pain and weight management.”

A New Approach to Hypnotherapy

I created a process I call the Hypnotic Envelope. It has many of the same features as typical hypnotherapy sessions, such as induction, deepening, and emerging, but with a few added bells and whistles, making it a richer, creative, and generative experience.

The Hypnotic Envelope is executed using an induction. My preference is one I invented, which involves a ball of light traveling along the body from the feet to the head. It offers energy and balance, expanding the third eye and connecting the conscious and subconscious minds.

Clients are then guided to their favorite safe space, given a special empowering gift, and transported to a sacred healing space where techniques can be applied to achieve the desired goal.

Once the healing work is completed, clients are guided to envision themselves in their ideal state to anchor their newfound wellness. They, then, imagine carrying these new traits into the future before emerging from the trance state.

During this process, many issues come to light that will be well-served by adding EFT.

The Synergy of EFT and Hypnotherapy

While EFT and hypnotherapy are powerful, combining these techniques can enhance their potency and provide a more comprehensive approach to healing. Here’s why integrating EFT tapping with hypnotherapy can be beneficial:

1. Enhanced Emotional Release

The Emotional Freedom Technique helps to release negative emotions and energy blocks, preparing the mind and body for more profound therapeutic work. When followed by hypnotherapy, individuals are more relaxed and receptive, allowing for more profound emotional healing and transformation.

2. Deeper Access to the Subconscious Mind

Hypnotherapy digs deep into the root cause of issues that have triggers that can then be effectively reduced with EFT. Used at the end of a hypnosis session, tapping is effective in removing any residual negative responses.

3. Stabilize Positive Changes

I like to give clients a chart and instructions for EFT so they can apply it to themselves days, weeks, or years later. Whenever they feel stressed or are triggered, they can continue to create wellness and reinforce the work we have done in our sessions. Doing so empowers them in their journey of healing and wellness.

5. Holistic Healing Approach

Although EFT may not be used in every hypnotherapy session, it is a potent complement to the healing and wellness process when appropriate. This method delivers deep and lasting results without requiring invasive procedures or medication. Naturally, clients should be encouraged to consult a medical professional for symptoms that may have a medical basis.
