There are many ways to practice hypnotherapy.
Some approaches rely heavily on scripts and predetermined protocols. Others focus primarily on symptom management. Still others incorporate spiritual exploration, subconscious communication, and deeper transformational work. This last group is powerful because it engages client-centered hypnotherapy.
After more than forty years of working with clients and training practitioners, I discovered something important:
The most powerful healing does not come from reading a script.
It comes from engaging in a meaningful dialogue with the subconscious mind.
This realization led me to develop what I now call The LaBay Method—a soulful, client-centered hypnotherapy approach designed to create profound healing, self-awareness, and lasting transformation.
In this article, we’ll explore:
- What hypnotherapy is
- Why traditional script-based approaches often fall short
- How the LaBay Method works
- Why client-centered hypnotherapy produces deeper breakthroughs
- How this client-centered hypnotherapy approach extends into past life regression and spiritual healing
What Is Hypnotherapy?
Hypnosis is a natural state of focused awareness and deep relaxation.
Most people experience similar states every day while driving, daydreaming, meditating, becoming absorbed in a book, or losing track of time during a creative activity.
When brainwave activity shifts from the ordinary Beta state into Alpha, Theta, or Delta frequencies, we gain access to deeper levels of consciousness.
These states are associated with:
- Creativity
- Intuition
- Memory
- Insight
- Healing
- Expanded awareness
This is where hypnotherapy becomes so effective.
Rather than working solely with the conscious mind, client-centered hypnotherapy allows us to communicate directly with the subconscious patterns that influence our thoughts, emotions, behaviors, relationships, and physical well-being.
The Limitations of Traditional Hypnotherapy
When many practitioners begin their training, they are taught to rely heavily on scripts.
The practitioner gathers information about the client’s problem, searches through a collection of prewritten scripts, and then reads a prepared monologue while the client is in hypnosis. My early education in hypnotherapy emphasized writing scripts or scouring script books to find a suitable metaphor for the session.
While this approach can produce results, I quickly discovered several limitations.
- No two clients are identical.
- No two subconscious minds are identical.
- No script can perfectly anticipate the unique experiences, beliefs, memories, and emotional patterns that have shaped an individual.
- It was difficult to determine whether the script worked and results were achieved.
I found myself asking: “What if the client already possesses the wisdom needed for healing? “What if the subconscious mind knows exactly where the problem originated and how it can be resolved?” “How can I create a client-centered hypnotherapy method that would apply to a wide range of issues and bring effective resolutions.
Those questions changed everything.
The Birth of the LaBay Method
Early in my career, I began developing a client-centered hypnotherapy approach that allowed the subconscious mind to guide the process.
Instead of talking at the client, I began engaging the subconscious mind directly through conversation, imagery, exploration, and discovery.
The result was extraordinary.
Clients began experiencing deeper insights, faster breakthroughs, and more lasting transformation.
Over time, this evolved into what is now known as the LaBay Method. Rather than imposing a predetermined solution, the process helps clients uncover their own answers, strengths, and pathways to healing. The session becomes a collaborative exploration rather than a scripted performance.
What Makes the LaBay Method Different?
The LaBay Method is built upon several core principles that make client-centered hypnotherapy so effective.
Client-Centered
Every session is uniquely tailored to the individual.
There are no canned scripts.
The client’s subconscious mind determines the direction of the work.
Holistic
Healing is approached from multiple levels:
- Mental
- Emotional
- Physical
- Energetic
- Spiritual
Transformational
The goal is not simply symptom management.
The goal is to discover and resolve the deeper origins of a problem.
Interactive
Clients actively participate in their healing process.
Breakthroughs occur through insight, discovery, and engagement rather than passive suggestion.

The Client-Centered Experience
During a session, clients often experience profound “Aha!” moments as hidden connections become clear.
They begin to understand:
- Why they react the way they do
- Where limiting beliefs originated
- How old wounds continue to influence present choices
- What changes are needed to move forward
As these discoveries emerge, healing becomes natural.
The process is not something done to the client. Instead, the client is provided with a safe and supportive workspace in which transformation can occur.
The LaBay Method of Client-Centered Hypnotherapy and Past Life Regression
One of the most distinctive aspects of the LaBay Method is its integration with past-life regression.
Over the years, I became increasingly aware that some issues could not be fully understood through present-life experiences alone.
Certain fears, physical symptoms, relationship patterns, and emotional reactions appeared to originate beyond the current lifetime.
Imagine your soul as a diamond with countless facets.
Each facet represents a different lifetime, experience, and perspective.
The personality you identify with today is only one small expression of a much larger soul journey.
Through past life regression, clients often uncover the deeper origins of challenges that have followed them across lifetimes.
By bringing awareness and healing to those experiences, profound shifts can occur in the present.
For many clients, this becomes one of the most meaningful and transformative aspects of their work.
A Different Way Forward
The LaBay Method of client-centered hypnotherapy represents an evolution in the field.
It replaces scripts with dialogue, assumptions with discovery, symptom management with meaningful transformation.
Whether the goal is emotional healing, personal growth, spiritual awakening, or professional development, this client-centered hypnotherapy approach enables individuals to tap into their inner wisdom and create lasting change.
After decades of refinement and thousands of successful client sessions, I remain convinced that the answers we seek are often already within us.
The role of the hypnotherapist is to help reveal them.
